This is the type of scene I often sketch on the way to work. Time spent sketching in the car for this one: about an hour. Time spent adding details at home: about 15 minutes. The first step is to add some quick pencil lines.

I chose this scene because I like the way all the utility poles on this street are leaning to the right. These two entries in Cassell's rather uneven series of books on sketching are both aimed at the hobbyist.

Each covers the basics of black-and-white drawing and provides tips for capturing atmosphere and movement. Marsh, a professor of art and design, offers a practical but uninspired manual illustrated largely with English street scenes/5(3).

With the combination of teaching perspective twice in the last month and re-visiting all the content for my Edges course (getting ready for relaunch next week!) I am becoming more and more convinced that perspective isn’t the biggest issue when it comes to sketching buildings and street Sketching street scenes book.
